Machine Learning and Satellite Imagery Based Oceanography

Marine debris consisting of plastics and various other non-biodegradable matter kills thousands of aquatic organisms every year. Cleanup efforts are expensive and often face challenges in locating garbage patches that keep drifting under the influence of ocean currents. Wikilimo uses satellite imagery to detect major garbage patches in oceans around the world. With the help of numerical models for ocean currents and machine learning based optimisation techniques, we are able to identify the optimum routes for cleanup.

Carbon Neutral Marine Shipping

The marine shipping industry is one of the biggest greenhouse gas contributors and is thus directly incentivised to participate in ocean cleanup efforts in exchange for carbon credits to offset their emissions. Wikilimo provides optimal shipping routes and blockchain based tracking ensures seamless delivery of these carbon credits.
